To the `Ad people (We sent) Hud, one of their own brethren. He said: “O my people! Worship Allah! You have no other god but Him. (Your other gods) you do nothing but invent! (11:50)
“O my people! I ask of you no reward for this (Message). My reward is from none but Him who created me: Will you not then understand? (11:51)
“And O my people! Ask forgiveness of your Lord, and turn to Him (in repentance): He will send you the skies pouring abundant rain, and add strength to your strength: so turn you not back in sin!” (11:52)
They said: “O Hud! No Clear (Sign) that have you brought us, and we are not the ones to desert our gods on your word! Nor shall we believe in you! (11:53)
“We say nothing but that (perhaps) some of your gods may have seized you with imbecility.” He said: “I call Allah to witness, and do you bear witness, that I am free from the sin of ascribing, to Him. (11:54)
“Other gods as partners! So scheme (your worst) against me, all of you, and give me no respite. (11:55)
“I put my trust in Allah, My Lord and your Lord! There is not a moving creature, but he has grasp of its fore-lock. Verily, it is my Lord that is on a straight Path. (11:56)
“If you turn away, I (at least) have conveyed the Message with which I was sent to you. My Lord will take another people to succeed you, and you will not harm Him in the least. For my Lord has care and watch over all things.” (11:57)
So when Our decrees issued, We saved Hud and those who believed with him, by (special) Grace from Ourselves: We saved them from a severe penalty. (11:58)
Such were the `Ad People: they rejected the Signs of their Lord and Cherisher; disobeyed His messengers; And followed the command of every powerful, obstinate transgressor. (11:59)
And they were pursued by a Curse in this life, and on the Day of Judgment. Ah! Behold! For the `Ad rejected their Lord and Cherisher! Ah Behold! Removed (from sight) were `Ad the people of Hud! (11:60)
The ‘Ad (people) rejected the messengers. (26:123)
Behold, their brother Hud said to them: “Will you not fear (Allah)? (26:124)
“I am to you a Messenger worthy of all trust: (26:125)
“So fear Allah and obey me. (26:126)
“No reward do I ask of you for it: my reward is only from the Lord of the Worlds. (26:127)
“Do you build a landmark on every high place to amuse yourselves? (26:128)
“And do you get for yourselves fine buildings in the hope of living therein (for ever)? (26:129)
“And when you exert your strong hand, do you do it like men of absolute power? (26:130)
“Now fear Allah, and obey me. (26:131)
“Yes, fear Him Who has bestowed on you freely all that you know. (26:132)
“Freely has He bestowed on you cattle and sons,- (26:133)
“And Gardens and Springs. (26:134)
“Truly I fear for you the Penalty of a Great Day.” (26:135)
They said: “It is the same to us whether you admonish us or be not among (our) admonishers! (26:136)
“This is no other than a customary device of the ancients, (26:137)
“And we are not the ones to receive Pains and Penalties!” (26:138)
So they rejected him, and We destroyed them. Verily in this is a Sign: but most of them do not believe. (26:139)
And verily your Lord is He, the Exalted in Might, Most Merciful. (26:140)
(Remember also) the ‘Ad and the Thamud (people): clearly will appear to you from (the traces) of their buildings (their fate): the Evil One made their deeds alluring to them, and kept them back from the Path, though they were gifted with intelligence and skill. (29:38)
(Remember also) Qarun, Fir‘awn, and Haman: there came to them Musa with Clear Signs, but they behaved with insolence on the earth; yet they could not overreach (Us). (29:39)
Each one of them We seized for his crime: of them, against some We sent a violent tornado (with showers of stones); some were caught by a (mighty) Blast; some We caused the earth to swallow up; and some We drowned (in the waters): It was not Allah Who injured (or oppressed) them: “They injured (and oppressed) their own souls. (29:40)
Now the ‘Ad behaved arrogantly through the land, against (all) truth and reason, and said: “Who is superior to us in strength?” What! Did they not see that Allah, Who created them, was superior to them I strength? But they continued to reject Our Signs! (41:15)
So We sent against them a furious Wind through days of disaster, that We might give them a taste of a Penalty of humiliation in this life; but the Penalty of Hereafter will be more humiliating still: and they will find no help. (41:16)
As to the Thamud, We gave them Guidance, but they preferred blindness (of heart) to Guidance: so the stunning Punishment of humiliation seized them, because of what they had earned. (41:17)
Mention (Hud) one of ‘Ad’s (own) brethren: Behold, he warned his people about the winding Sand-tracts: but there have been warners before him and after him: “Worship you none other than Allah: Truly I fear for you the Penalty of a Mighty Day.” (46:21)
They said: “Have you come in order to turn us aside from our gods? Then bring upon us the (calamity) with which you do threaten us, if you are telling the truth?” (46:22)
He said: “The Knowledge (of when it will come) is only with Allah: I proclaim to you the mission on which I have been sent: but I see that you are a people in ignorance!”.. (46:23)
Then, when they saw the (Penalty in the shape of) a cloud traversing the sky, coming to meet their valleys, they said, “This cloud will give us rain!” “Nay, it is the (calamity) you were asking to be hastened!- A wind wherein is a Grievous Penalty. (46:24)
“Everything will it destroy by the command of its Lord!” Then by the morning they- nothing was to be seen but (the ruins of) their houses! Thus do We recompense those given to sin! (46:25)
And We had firmly established them in a (prosperity and) power which We have not given to you (you Quraysh!) and We have endowed them with (faculties of) hearing, seeing, heart and intellect: but of no profit to them were their (faculties of) hearing, sight, and heart and intellect, when they went on rejecting the Signs of Allah; and they were (completely) encircled by that which they used to mock at! (46:26)
And in the ‘Ad (people) (was another Sign): Behold, We sent against them the devastating Wind: (51:41)
It left nothing whatever that it came up against, but reduced it to ruin and rottenness. (51:42)
The ‘Ad (people) (too) rejected (Truth): then how terrible was My Penalty and My Warning? (54:18)
For We sent against them a furious wind, on a Day of violent Disaster, (54:19)
Plucking out men as if they were roots of palm-trees torn up (from the ground). (54:20)
Yes, how (terrible) was My Penalty and My Warning! (54:21)
And the ‘Ad, they were destroyed by a furious Wind, exceedingly violent; (69:6)
He made it rage against them seven nights and eight days in succession: so that you could see the (whole) people lying prostrate in its (path), as they had been roots of hollow palm-trees tumbled down! (69:7)
